What is Scots language?

Scots is the official name of a language spoken in modern Scotland. It is a language in its own right.

Often mistakenly called slang or regarded as only a dialect of English.There are many dialects of Scots including Glaswegian, Doric, Ayrshire and Shetlandamong others.

Consider the following questions:

  • How do these words make you feel?
  • Do you use some or all of them?
  • Do you know people who do?
  • Where do you think they are used most? (north/south, east/west)
