Rounding to nearest 1000

When rounding to the nearest 1000, we look at the hundreds digit.  The basic rule of rounding is if it is 5 or above round up, else round down:​

• 4356​
• Is this closer to 4000 or 5000?​
• The hundreds digit is a 3, this tells us to round down

Rounding to nearest 100

When rounding to the nearest 100, we look at the tens digit.  The basic rule of rounding is if it is 5 or above round up, else round down:​

• Is this closer to 200 or 300?​
• The tens digit is a 5, this tells us to round up

Rounding to nearest whole number

When rounding to the nearest whole number, we look at the tenths digit.  The basic rule of rounding is if it is 5 or above round up, else round down:​

• Is this closer to 15 or 16?​
• The tenths digit is a 6, this tells us to round up

Rounding to one decimal place

When rounding to one decimal place, we look at the hundredths digit.  The basic rule of rounding is if it is 5 or above round up, else round down:​
