Try to work out the question following this scenario:

You are going to a concert in Glasgow from your hometown of Dundee. The concert starts at 8pm. You finish work at 4pm, it takes you 20 minutes to get to the train station, you get a train to Glasgow, you then have a 10 minute walk to the bus stop and need to get a bus to the concert hall.

Can you make the concert in time? What information do you need to know?

 

Answer: You need to know when the busses and trains come.

Look for bus and train timetables to see if there is a way to get to the concert hall in Glasgow 8pm.

Answer:

  • You get to Dundee Train station at 4.20pm so can get Train 3 that departs at 4.45pm.
  • You arrive in Glasgow at 6.25pm and walk to the bus station.
  • You arrive at the bus station at 6.35pm and get Bus 3 to the Concert Hall that departs at.
  • You arrive at the concert hall at 7.35pm which is 25 minutes before the concert starts, so you make the concert in time.

Practical exercise for you to try:

  • Look at TV guides, bus timetables and calendars and try to work out how long there is between different items.
